In addition to selecting tracks in Curriculum and Instruction and in Educational Leadership, students at Cornerstone University’s Professional & Graduate Studies Division now have a third area of specialty when choosing a track in the Master of Arts in Education program. The university received approval from the State of Michigan to offer the Educational Technology track beginning in fall 2009. According to Education Program Director, Dr. Linda Haveman, “Within our state, very few higher learning institutions currently offer this option, particularly in an accelerated format.” Education students have two options: receive an endorsement (23 credits) or a full master’s degree including an endorsement (35 credits).
The program meets the need of educators to provide instruction in an increasingly technology-driven environment. With the Integration of faith and learning, characteristic of all Cornerstone adult-degree programs, the program explores current issues in education related to technology, leadership, values, pedagogy and differentiated instruction form a Christian worldview. Cutting-edge topics are addressed, such as multi-media for the classroom, online teaching and learning, research, instructional design, assessment and issues in technology,.
Dr. Haveman summarizes, “The Educational Technology track helps educators to be better prepared to implement technology in their classroom and Cornerstone desires to be at the forefront of this educational instruction.”
