Qualified applicants should submit the online application along with a letter of inquiry, current resume/ curriculum vitae and official transcripts from graduate colleges/universities. Applicants desiring to teach in the MA Ed. program, should also submit a photocopy of their baccalaureate transcripts showing their areas of concentraton (major and minor endorsements).
Those who meet the criteria and our current needs will be contacted by the appropriate program director to arrange an interview. The interview will evaluate the candidate’s mission fit, academic and professional preparation in specific content areas, classroom (onsite or online) technology skills and understanding of the adult learner and teaching methods.
Onsite faculty: Candidates participate in an evening session, which includes small-group work and presentations. The sessions are held on a weekday from 6 – 9 p.m. at the Grand Rapids campus. This provides an opportunity for faculty evaluators to assess the candidate's facilitation skills.
Online faculty: Candidates are asked to submit two discussion thread questions, a sample lecture in the form of 5-10 PowerPoint slides and devotional to assess the candidate's ability to facilitate in an online environment.
Once a candidate is recommended for hire after the evaluation session, final hiring approval rests with the director of the program in which the candidate will be teaching.
All new faculty are required to participate in approximately 10-12 hours of training. Eight of those hours are required prior to teaching the first course. The training can be completed on the main campus in Grand Rapids or online.
