Selection Process

Step 1: Apply

Qualified applicants should submit a letter of inquiry, current resume/curriculum vitae, application and official transcripts from graduate colleges/universities. If you are applying to teach in the education program, you should also submit a photocopy of your undergraduate transcript.

Step 2: Initial Interview

Those who meet the criteria and our current needs will be contacted by the appropriate program director to arrange an interview. The interview will evaluate the candidate’s mission fit, academic and professional preparation in specific content areas, classroom (onground and online) technology skills and understanding of the adult learner and teaching methods.

Step 3: Candidate Evaluation Session

Onsite faculty: Candidates participate in an evening session which includes small group work and presentations.  The sessions are held on a weekday from 6 – 9:00 p.m. on campus in Grand Rapids. This provides an opportunity for faculty evaluators to assess the candidate's presentation skills and how well they work with people in a classroom setting.

Online faculty: Candidates may be asked to shadow a live online course or to participate in an online session in which they will facilitate a portion of a class.

Step 4: Final Review and Approval

Once a candidate is recommended for hire after the evaluation session, final hiring approval rests with the Director of Academic Services or the program director, depending on the program in which the candidate will be teaching.
