Frequently Asked Questions

How much studying is required outside of the classroom?
Students should be prepared to spend 13-15 hours each week outside of the classroom in preparation for class.

Are Professional Learning Teams (PLT's) mandatory? Yes, Professional Learning Teams (PLT's) are an integral part of the success of the Cornerstone University educational model. Learning Teams function as a support mechanism through which students learn from the professional expertise of their peers. Working adults seldom have extra time necessary for pursuing full-time, formal education. By sharing the combined talent, experience and learning resources of the PLT, a system of trust and support encourages the development of the educational process; so it becomes more efficient and effective.

How many hours per week will I need to dedicate for involvement with my Professional Learning Team? The time commitment for the Professional Learning Team will vary from course to course. While there is no specific meeting requirement, generally the time commitment will average approximately three hours per week.

When can I get started? Almost immediately! When there are at least 16 students who have applied and qualify for a degree program, we will start a group. This makes your application extremely important to us in establishing a date for your class to begin. It could happen within a month from your application date.

What happens if I need to miss a night of class? Class attendance and learning team meetings are mandatory. However, there may be occasions when an absence is unavoidable.  Therefore, a maximum of one absence is allowed when arrangements are made with your instructor.

How are my payments structured? The first course payment is due on the first day/night of class. All other payments are due on or before the first day/night of each new course.

Is financial aid available? Yes! As a full-time student you will have the option to apply for grants and loans. If you have specific questions, contact the Cornerstone University Financial Aid Coordinator at 616-222-1424, or 1-800-947-2382. After your academic application has been submitted, your Admissions Advisor can provide you with financial aid forms.

How does financial aid affect my payment plan? If your financial aid forms are complete and have been processed, those funds will be applied to your remaining payments as they become due.

Can I really do this at this point in my life? Yes! It is possible because adult students are typically more motivated and responsible than when they were younger. They have also acquired the time management skills that are necessary for success in an accelerated adult program.

How do I receive my books?  Books are generally delivered to the classroom on the last night of previous course.
